I grew up immersed in Southern Arizona's beautiful Sonoran Desert landscape. The influence of that desert's color and vastness, combined with my early travels around the world, helped me understand that I innately visualize my surroundings, natural or man-made, in terms of shapes, colors and compositions. Intense light and clear creosote-scented air, sharp-shaped mountains of blues, greens and purples, expansive sky with audacious sunsets, and the calming quiet of nature, together create this majestic environment. Walking in this landscape invites stillness, mindfulness and awe. Saturated colors and the glittering intensity of iridescent paint and metallic leaf help me to express my visceral connection to the big landscapes of the Southwest.
